Governor’s Press Conference – April 20

Governor’s press conference today, MONDAY APRIL 20th, 2020:

🔘 1,923 total cases. Up 142 from yesterday. 117 of those are from Cummins.
🔘 Our goal isn’t just to do contact tracing. We want to broaden our scope to surveillance testing. Governor is meeting tomorrow with state labs to discuss.
🔘 While we are looking to lift some restrictions starting May 4th to allow for more employment opportunities, social restrictions will continue to be in place. Still need to wear masks and gloves, and limit # of people in groups.
🔘 Received graph from White House that shows state testing per capita. Arkansas is doing very well in # of those tested (graph will be posted in comments once I receive).

DR NATE SMITH, SEC OF ADH:

📍Out of 1,923 total cases:
1,133 are active
749 have recovered
93 currently hospitalized
24 currently on ventilators
2 new deaths (42 total)
244 have been healthcare workers
128 have been nursing home residents

WHEN CAN GRANDPARENTS VISIT GRANDCHILDREN AGAIN?
➡️ The Opening Up America Plan has this
as a Phase 3 or later activity. Children
have high risk of spreading virus
because they don’t socially distance/
wash hands well. Many children are
also asymptomatic. So mixing them
with those who are over 65 with
underlying medical conditions can be
dangerous.

📍890 test reports received yesterday.
Only 22 positives came from the
community (1% positive rate).

📍In regards to surveillance testing, we
encourage clinicians to test as many
people as possible who have COVID-19
symptoms.

📍Continuing to expand contact tracing.
Currently 100-120 additional people in
training.

same time last year.
