Governor’s Press Conference – Aug 26

There were 649 new cases and 21 deaths reported at today’s COVID-19 daily update. Hospitalizations have decreased by 7 since yesterday.

The Governor began today’s news conference by announcing that he has declared an emergency in advance of Hurricane Laura. The storm is expected to bring in high winds and flooding in

Arkansas tomorrow. The winds may result in power outages. The Governor has allocated $250,000 for preparations. Arkansans are urged to pay attention to weather reports and avoid driving in flooded areas.

The Arkansas Health Department reports that there are now zero active cases at the Cummins and Ouachita River Correctional Facilities.

The Governor also announced that 70,000 plastic face shields are being sent to school employees.
